Police shooting in Molendinar, QLD

A man is in hospital after he was shot by police in Molendinar overnight.

Officers were called to Wentworth Avenue shortly before 10.40pm following reports a man was armed with two knives in the street and was causing a disturbance.

Responding officers have attended the scene and repeatedly requested the man to drop the knives.

The man then charged at them and officers have discharged a number of shots for their service firearms.

The man was struck a number of times in the torso area and was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition where he is currently receiving treatment.

A crime scene has been established at Wentworth Avenue.

As with all critical incidents, the Ethical Standard Command have been advised and will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Local officers are supporting their colleagues and the Police Union is offering support to officers who attended the scene.
