Police will be targeting hooning and other dangerous driving behaviour this long weekend in Southern Tasmania.
Acting Inspector Ben Duffey said that members of the public were encouraged to send in their dash cam or video as evidence if they witness dangerous driving.
“During public holiday periods we find there are more vehicles on our roads and we will be continuing to target those drivers who behave in an unsafe manner,” Acting Inspector Duffey said.
“While people can send in their footage to us at any time, this is a targeted operation to capture what is a traditionally busy public holiday period on our roads and remind drivers to do the right thing.
“Help us keep our roads safe…. if you see a vehicle being driven dangerously, you can upload dash cam footage directly to us from your mobile phone or computer.
“It’s simple, easy to use and only takes a few moments. Remember to include as much information as you can – time, date, location, registration number and any other distinguishing features that will help us track them down.”
Acting Inspector Duffey said that members of the public should also be prepared to sign a statutory declaration so that police have the best possible chance of successful prosecution.
“You may be able to provide an important piece of evidence that helps to solve a police investigation and helps keep our roads safe,” he said.
