Police update 1: Missing woman in Gap, QLD

Police have released CCTV stills in an urgent appeal for public assistance as a search operation is launched for missing 78-year-old woman Wendy Smith at The Gap.

Wendy went missing from a Lahore Street property at approximately 9pm on Thursday, February 2, and has not been seen or heard from since.

Family and police hold serious concerns for Wendy’s welfare, as her disappearance is out of character.

The operation included SES volunteers on the ground, as well as support from police ATVs, and ground crews.

PolAir also assisted with search efforts overnight.

Police have released CCTV images of Wendy at a business on Glenquarie Place at The Gap at approximately 3:40pm on Thursday, February 2.

Investigations indicate Wendy travelled to Lahore Street from this location, and was last seen there at approximately 9pm, when it is believed Wendy left the address on foot.

Residents within The Gap and surrounding areas are urged to review their CCTV or dashcam footage from Thursday night, and to check their properties.

Wendy is described as Caucasian in appearance, approximately 170cm tall with a heavy build, short light brown hair and green eyes.
