Police update 2: Firearm incident in Mermaid Waters, QLD

A 37-year-old Oxenford man was arrested in Western Sydney on Saturday and extradited to Queensland today in relation to a firearm incident that occurred in Mermaid Waters on November 24.

Gold Coast detectives have worked with interstate police to apprehended the man on a Queensland arrest warrant for allegedly firing a gun into the side of a car during a road rage incident.

He is alleged to have been on bail for serious offences at this time and was wearing an electronic monitoring device as part of the conditions of that bail.

The man has been charged with one count each of unlawful possession of weapons – firearm used to commit indictable offence, dangerous conduct with weapon, wilful damage and wilful damage of police property and two counts of breach of bail conditions.

The man appeared in a Sydney court this morning, January 23, where his extradition was approved.

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on 24 Jan.
