Police update 2: Robberies at Gold Coast

Gold Coast detectives will today apply for the extradition of a man and girl who have been arrested in Newcastle by virtue of a Queensland arrest warrant, following two alleged attempted robberies and an armed robbery along the M1 on the southern Gold Coast on Friday August 9.

It will be alleged that around 3pm, a silver Ford Falcon with no registration plates was being driven dangerously south on the M1 near Burleigh when it stopped suddenly in front of a vehicle.

It will be further alleged that a girl and a man armed with a sharp implement exited the Falcon before threatening drivers and attempting to steal two different vehicles.

After their unsuccessful attempts, the pair continued south on the M1 before allegedly confronting another driver of a vehicle near the Palm Beach exit.

The pair allegedly forced a 67-year-old woman out of her black 2017 Mazda CX-3 hatchback before taking off in the car.

A 27-year-old Western Australian man and a 17-year-old girl of no fixed address were arrested by New South Wales police outside a local shopping centre in Newcastle yesterday morning.

The 27-year-old man is scheduled to appear at the Newcastle Local Court today (Thursday, August 15) where Queensland Police will seek his extradition to Brisbane tomorrow afternoon.
