Police update 3: Sudden death investigation – Labrador

Detectives investigating the death of a 60-year-old man at Labrador yesterday morning are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the incident.

Police are particularly keen to speak to a female jogger dressed in black pants and a white or grey shirt who passed the Whiting Street scene around 5.35am.

It is alleged around 5.15am yesterday a 60-year-old man became involved in a verbal altercation with a 48-year-old man known to him outside a Whiting Street address

It is further alleged the altercation then turned physical, with the 60-year-old man knocked to the ground and assaulted by the 48-year-old man before being struck in the head with a wooden instrument.

The 60-year-old man managed to stand up and walk a short distance before collapsing.

Emergency services attended soon after however he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A 48-year-old Biggera Waters man has been charged with one count each of manslaughter and serious assault.

He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today (November 19).
