Police update: Armed robbery at Chermside West, QLD

A 24-year-old man, the subject of a police search after a woman and two young children were threatened at Chermside West has been taken into custody.

At around 4.30pm on March 6, the man approached a woman who was standing beside her parked car containing two children, produced bladed weapons and demanded the keys.

The man fled in the woman’s white hatchback which has since been the subject of a police search.

Overnight officers sighted the vehicle in Slacks Creek, Logan, Browns Plains and Calamvale however it sped away.

Early this morning a member of the public recognised the man in Kedron and alerted police the vehicle was travelling south.

At around 2am, a tyre deflation device was successfully deployed on the Gateway Motorway southbound, approximately 500m before the old Cleveland Road exit at Carina however the vehicle continued along the Gateway.

The vehicle took the Logan Road exit and then turned right onto Logan Road into oncoming traffic before coming to a stop at the corner of Gaskell Street at Eight Mile Plains.

A 24-year-old man is currently assisting officers with their inquiries into a series of recent incidents in Brisbane and Logan including threatening two police officers, as well as threatening an elderly couple and stealing their car.

Investigations are continuing.
