Police update: Attempted robbery at Burleigh Heads, QLD

Gold Coast detectives are appealing for public assistance to locate a silver or grey Mitsubishi Lancer that may assist with investigations into an attempted robbery at Burleigh Heads on Tuesday, July 11.

The vehicle is described as 9th generation with VR-X trim and black mag wheels, believed to be a 2008 model or newer.

Shortly before 4.20pm a man, travelling as a passenger in a car matching that description, was dropped off at Gardenia Grove.

A few minutes later the man pushed a 14-year-old boy, who was sitting on his electric ‘Sur-Ron Light Bee X’ dirt-bike while talking with friends on the footpath of the Gold Coast Highway near Gardenia Grove, and attempted to steal the electric dirt-bike.

The boy held onto his bike and refused to let go. One of the boy’s friends kicked the man twice before grabbing the key from the bike and running off. The man chased the friend but was unable to catch him.

The victim received bruising to his right eye as a result of the assault.

The man depicted in this vision may be able to assist police with their inquiries.

Anyone who recognises the man or the vehicle in the vision is urged to contact police.
