Police update: Brisbane cold case homicide continued appeal for assistance

Detectives investigating the 1985 murder of Richard Campbell at his Tarragindi home continue their appeal for public assistance in the hope that vital information will be received, in particular about a home delivery soft drink truck seen in the area at the time.

As part of a protracted investigation and following last week’s public appeal, investigators from Homicide Group’s Cold Case Investigation Team are reviewing witness information as well as examining new information received.

Richard Campbell was 85 at the time when, on the morning of June 13, 1985, he was found deceased with fatal head wounds inside his Pope Street home after ambulance attended following a triple 0 call from an anonymous man.

Investigators believe Richard’s death may be related to a robbery as his house was found ransacked and police believe a sum of money was stolen.

Police are seeking more information about the driver of a 1976 white flatbed Bedford truck, owned by ‘Crystal Soft Drinks’ that was seen by a witness in Pope Street around the time of Richard’s murder on the morning of June 13, 1985.

On the day of the murder, the truck was driven by a man with a fair complexion.

Last week police released the comfit image of a man seen by a witness leaving Richard Campbell’s house with a red sports bag.

Anyone with information relating to the driver of the Crystal soft drink truck in the Tarragindi area at the time or who may have information about the identity of the person depicted in the Comfit image is asked to contact police.

A Government reward of $250,000 has been issued for information which leads to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder.

The reward further offers an opportunity for indemnity against prosecution for any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who first gives such information.
