Police update: Charges – Fatal crash – Noonamah

Northern Territory Police have charged a 48-year-old man in relation to a fatal crash in Noonamah earlier this year.

The crash occurred on 21 June and resulted in the death of a 54-year-old motorcyclist at the scene.

Detectives from Major Crash Investigation Unit issued an NTA on the driver of the vehicle yesterday for the following offences:

  • Drive with a prohibited drug in body
  • Drive without due care
  • Fail to give way

He is due to appear in Darwin Local Court on 6 December 2022.

Acting Sergeant Darryl Slater said “Drug use is one of the Fatal Five and worsens your driving through cognitive impairment, which affects your judgement, memory and reaction time. Under no circumstances should you be on NT roads with drugs in your system.

“Motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians are particularly vulnerable road users. NT Police urge drivers to be aware that vulnerable road users are less visible than cars. Drivers need to be attentive and thoroughly look for all road users when giving way.”
