Police update: Charges – Hit and Run – Coolalinga

Northern Territory Police have charged two people in relation to a hit and run in Coolalinga on Monday night.

Police were notified of what appeared to be a human leg on the Stuart Highway just north of Coolalinga on Tuesday morning.

Investigations confirmed that the remains were related to an incident that occurred the previous night.

Police arrested a 23-year-old male and a 50-year-old female Wednesday afternoon, and through with subsequent enquiries located the body of a woman who is believed to be the victim of the hit and run near bushland along Jenkins Road.

The 23-year-old was charged with:

  • Hit and Run
  • Misconduct with regard to a corpse
  • Attempt to pervert the course of justice
  • Destroy evidence
  • Misconduct with regards to a corpse

He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court today.

The 50-year-old female was charged with:

  • Attempt to pervert the course of justice
  • Destroy evidence
  • Misconduct with regards to a corpse

She was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Morrissey said, “Investigations are ongoing but at this stage we believe the body of the victim was removed from the scene by the driver and his accomplice after the collision. To fatally strike someone with your vehicle and then go to great lengths to cover it up is reprehensible behaviour.

“Detectives thank the public for their assistance in this case. The information and dash-cam footage provided by motorists played a vital role in piecing together what happened on Monday night.”
