Police update: Child death investigation at Mackay

A 24-year-old East Mackay man has been charged this afternoon following a two-month investigation into the death of a six-month-old baby boy on June 2.

Paramedics were called to an East Mackay residence at 2pm on Tuesday, June 2, where a six-month-old boy was found unresponsive.

He was transported to Mackay Base Hospital before being transferred to Townsville Hospital where he passed away on June 4.

Officers attached to Mackay’s Child Protection and Investigation Unit arrested the man shortly after 2pm today.

The 24-year-old man has been charged with murder and grievous bodily harm.

He is due to appear in Mackay Magistrates Court tomorrow.
