Major Crash detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of a fatal crash which occurred yesterday afternoon.
A member of the public reported the incident shortly before 5pm. Police, Fire and Ambulance were deployed to the crash, 80km east of the Stuart Highway intersection
Upon arrival, police observed what was a head-on collision, between a truck and a sedan. Despite the best efforts of witnesses and first responders, a 25-year-old woman and an infant child that were passengers in the sedan died at the scene.
A 24-year-old woman was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extracted. She was airlifted along with the 22-year-old male driver to Royal Darwin Hospital.
The truck driver was uninjured. Both drivers tested negative for alcohol.
The road remains closed while investigations are ongoing.
