Police update: Murder charge in Moorooka, QLD

A 20-year-old Gold Coast man has had his charge upgraded to murder following the death of a 33-year-old man wounded in Moorooka on Friday May 20.

It is alleged the Moorooka man suffered critical stab wounds following an altercation at a Lyon Street unit complex at approximately 8.30pm.

Police rendered first aid at the scene before the 33-year-old was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition, where he has since passed away as a result of his injuries.

The 20-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene and subsequently charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

Following the 33-year-old’s death, the 20-year-old man has now been charged with one count each of murder and unlawful possession of weapons.

He is expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow, Tuesday June 7.

Detectives from Upper Mount Gravatt Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have established Operation Uniform Pint as investigations into the incident continue.

Anyone with information or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage in the vicinity of Lyon Street on the evening of May 20 is urged to contact police or Crimestoppers.
