Police update: Robbery incidents in Surfers Paradise, QLD

Police have charged a 16-year-old girl in relation to two robbery type incidents in Surfers Paradise last Friday morning, July 5.

It is alleged around 7.25am two women, aged in their 40s, were walking along Gold Coast Highway near Markwell Street when a young woman got out of a dark grey Kia Cerato hatchback and attempted to steal their handbags.

An occupant from a passing vehicle stopped to intervene and after a struggle, the young woman left in the car empty handed.

In another incident a short time later it is alleged around 7.30am a woman walking along Thomas Drive had her handbag stolen by a woman in the same Kia Cerato vehicle being driven by a young man.

The woman sustained scrapes on her knees as a result of the incident.

The 16-year-old girl from Logan Reserve has been charged with one count of robbery, one count of attempted robbery, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of fraud.

She will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

Investigations are continuing.
