Police update: Shooting incident in Southport, QLD

Police have charged four people after a man sustained a gunshot wound to his leg at a Southport unit yesterday afternoon.

A 27-year-old Holland Park man was driving a hired black 2020 Mercedes Benz S450L last night when it was allegedly stolen by two men he had met up with at Budds Beach.

It will be alleged that around midday today, two other men – one of whom was known to the 27-year-old – lured him to a high-rise unit on Lawson Street to negotiate payment for the return of the vehicle.

An altercation allegedly took place inside the unit resulting in the 27-year-old sustaining a gunshot wound to his upper right leg.

The three men, and a woman associated with the offenders, then rode the elevator to ground floor where the 27-year-old fled on foot and the three others allegedly fled in the stolen Mercedes.

Just before 12.30pm, police were called to a grocery store at the base of the Lawson Street unit where the injured 27-year-old had presented.

He was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Subsequent investigations lead police to Acacia Avenue, Surfers Paradise, around 2pm where officers located the stolen Mercedes with a 29-year-old Southport man, 25-year-old Gold Coast man and two women inside.

A 29-year-old Southport man and a 25-year-old Gold Coast man have both been charged with armed robbery, acts intended to main, depravation of liberty, extortion, and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The 25-year-old Gold Coast man has also been charged with two counts of possession of a dangerous drug (methylamphetamine and gamma hydroxybutyric acid) and possession of drug utensil (glass pipe).

Both men will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court this morning, November 13.
