Police update: Suspicious fires at Highgate Hill, QLD

A man has been charged in relation to a series of suspicious fires at Highgate Hill overnight.

At around 9.30pm on August 12, emergency services were called to attend an address on Franklin Street following reports of a house fire.

The blaze was extinguished, however a short time later police were called to another fire at a home on the same street. The residence was extensively damaged as a result.

Whilst at the scene a third fire was reported at a unit block on Hampstead Road in Highgate Hill. This blaze caused damage to multiple cars parked underneath the building.

Police will allege the same person responsible for the three blazes at Highgate Hill also attended an address on Boundary Road at West End earlier in the evening and set fire to some debris which then spread to a nearby wheelie bin.

A 50-year-old Wynnum man has since been charged with 12 offences including five counts of arson of a motor vehicle, three counts of enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence and two counts each of endangering property by fire and arson of a structure or building.

He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow (August 14).
