Police update: Third person dies after house fire in Hinchinbrook

A third person has died following a house fire in Sydney’s south west this morning.

About 5.40am (Sunday 24 July 2022), emergency services were called to a home on Rottnest Avenue, Hinchinbrook, after reports of a house well alight.

Six occupants, including a child, were evacuated from the home and were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

Two people died at the scene; both are yet to be formally identified however they are believed to be two women aged in their 40s and 60s.

A 10-year-old boy was transported to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition, where he later died.

A male, aged in his 40’s, and female, aged in her 60s, were taken to Concord Hospital, where they remain in a critical condition and stable condition respectively.

A further female, aged in her late 30s, was taken to Liverpool Hospital, where she remains in a stable condition.

The fire was extinguished by Fire and Rescue NSW.

Officers from Liverpool Police Area Command established a crime scene, which will be examined by specialist forensic police.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire is underway and the cause is yet to be determined.

Reports will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
