Police update: Wounding in Aitkenvale, QLD

Investigators have charged a woman following a wounding in Aitkenvale overnight.

Townsville police declared a crime scene in Aitkenvale, after a 46-year-old woman was stabbed during an alleged disturbance on Ross River Road around 1.20am this morning (August 8).

The woman was transported to the Townsville Hospital in a stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police conducted patrols of the area and within fifteen minutes, identified a person of interest.

A 35-year-old Kirwan woman has been charged with wounding. Her bail was refused and she will appear in Townsville Magistrates Court today.

Police will allege the women were socialising in a large group before the altercation occurred.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen the disturbance, or who may have relevant CCTV or dash camera footage from Ross River Road near Elizabeth Street, to contact them.

The investigation is ongoing.
