Police are urging motorists to slow down after five drivers were detected travelling at high speed on Dalrymple Road at The Glen (North-East Tasmania) yesterday.
A provisional licence holder was detected speeding at 140km/h in a 80km/h zone. The driver will face court and have their car clamped.
Four other motorists were issued with infringement notices for high range speeding after being detected travelling between 15km-h to 23km/h over the 80km/h speed limit.
Senior Sergeant Rob King said it was disappointing that some motorists were not heeding the warnings and adhering to speed limits, despite numerous road safety campaigns by police and other agencies.
“Speeding increases stopping distances for vehicles and reduces the time a driver has to respond to risks encountered on the road,” said Senior Sergeant King.
“Speeding also places drivers, their passengers and other road users at a much higher risk of serious injury if a crash occurs.”
“Police will continue to maintain a high presence on our roads, particularly targeting the fatal five – speeding, fatigue, distraction, seatbelts and alcohol and drugs”, Senior Sergeant King said.
