Police Vehicle Rammed / Assault Police

Police are calling for witnesses and dash cam footage to an incident yesterday where a police motorcyclist was rammed near Glendevie in southern Tasmania yesterday.

A police motorcyclist from Southern Road and Public Order Services was undertaking patrols in the Huon Valley as part of Operation Crossroads about 12.30pm yesterday.

At that time the constable intercepted an aqua blue coloured motor vehicle (similar to an older style Mazda 121) on the Huon Highway near Glendevie. As the constable was approaching the vehicle, the driver, in an alleged deliberate action, reversed suddenly whereby the blue vehicle struck the constable, knocking him, and the unmarked police motorcycle (Blue Yamaha) to the ground.

After this action, the driver moved forward however, again reversed suddenly, and in another alleged deliberate action, attempted to strike the constable. The driver of the vehicle then drove rapidly from the scene, travelling south towards Dover. The offending vehicle also contained a front seat passenger.

The driver was a man between the age of 25 to 30 years with mousey blond hair. The front passenger was a woman of similar age between 25 and 30 years with long blond hair.

Tasmania Ambulance attended and treated the constable at the scene and then transported him to the Royal Hobart Hospital for further treatment.

Police are appealing for any members of the public who may have witnessed this incident, or may have been in the area who have dash cam footage of vehicles travelling south on the Huon Highway towards Dover.
