Public Order Response Team officers impounded a man’s bike last week after the learner rider was detected more than double the speed limit in Vermont South.
The rider was first spotted on Burwood Highway, between Eastlink and Springvale Road, on Thursday 19 October about 7.10pm.
Officers detected the rider travelling 168km/h in an 80km/h zone, while racing with another learner rider.
The 26-year-old’s motorcycle was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1000.
It is expected the Springvale man will be charged on summons in relation to driving at a speed dangerous, exceeding the speed limit by 45/km/h or more and may face other traffic related offences.
The other learner driver sped off from police.
