Emergency services have worked together to achieve a positive result, saving a life, after a person became trapped in a grain silo earlier this week.

CFA responded to reports of a person trapped in a grain silo at around 3.23pm on Tuesday (6 October) on Thompson Street in Dunolly.

Multiple CFA crews attended the scene, including Dunolly, Maryborough & Bealiba Fire Brigades and the specialist Oscar 1 rescue unit.

Working alongside Fire Rescue Victoria, Victoria Police, VICSES, Ambulance Victoria, and GrainCorp, crews were able to stop grain from enclosing further onto the trapped person before performing the rescue.

CFA Commander Hugh Kelly said it was a wonderful example of cross agency collaboration.

“Everyone worked really well together,” Hugh said.

“It really emphasised the importance of having those relationships across the emergency services sector.”

The silo was about 10 per cent full when the person became trapped and Hugh said it was uplifting to see the person successfully rescued.

“These are complex incidents, so it was really amazing that we were able to achieve such a positive outcome,” Hugh said.

“I was really proud of all of the crews.”

The incident was declared safe at 7.08pm and the person was safely in the hands of Ambulance Victoria.
