To strengthen this work, Council has endorsed a new three-year Resource and Performance Agreement from 1 July 2027 to 30 June 2030, providing funding of $557,000 (excl. GST) per year through a combination of cash and in-kind support.

The Cairns Museum attracts more than 20,000 visitors annually and delivers education programs, volunteer opportunities and community initiatives that connect residents and visitors with the region’s rich history.

Preserving and sharing the photographs, objects, documents and stories of Far North Queensland for current and future generations is the important role played by the Cairns Historical Society in operating the Cairns Museum and Research Centre.
