Prestigious sports medicine conference to come to Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast will play host to some of the brightest minds in the fields of sports medicine, sport science, physical activity, health promotion and injury prevention at Sports Medicine Australia’s annual conference next year.

SMA today announced the 2019 ASICS SMA Conference would be held at Novotel Twin Waters Resort from October 23-26

SMA CEO Michael Kenihan said the conference provided key information for anyone in the sport medicine industry looking to develop further in their career or create new networking opportunities.

“This event is a must for anyone working in sports medicine and the prevention of lifestyle diseases,” Mr Kenihan said.

“Year-on year, the conference attracts the most renowned and respected researchers from across the discipline.

“A real highlight of the event is that it features a vibrant social calendar and opportunities to network with some of the most influential researchers and practitioners in the field.

“It is a fantastic platform from which to develop, build and strengthen professionally and all against the backdrop of the beautiful Sunshine Coast which will be a real highlight for our delegates from both overseas and around the country.”

Tourism, Events and Sport Portfolio Cr Jason O’Pray said hosting the conference at Novotel Twin Waters resort was a great outcome for the Sunshine Coast and especially the region’s tourism sector.

“With high-quality sporting facilities, along with the Sunshine Coast Health Precinct which is one of the Australia’s largest health infrastructure precincts, this type of event is the perfect fit for our region,” Cr O’Pray said.

“The precinct is estimated to contribute $3.2 billion to the Sunshine Coast economy and a further $447 million in following years, so with conferences like this one, the uplift to the sector will continue to be positive.

“The economic benefit for the community goes far beyond just the conference.

“We are incredibly excited to roll out the red carpet for the sports medicine sector as we continue to elevate our status as a premium tourism and business events destination.”

Visit Sunshine Coast VSC CEO Simon Latchford said: “The Sunshine Coast is excited to host the 2019 ASICS Sports Medicine Australia National Conference.
