VIC Premier

The Andrews Labor Government is delivering families across Melbourne’s fast growing outer suburbs brand new schools in 2024, with the first-class facilities a step closer after Principals have been named to lead four new schools.

Visiting the construction site for Lockerbie Central Primary School (interim name), Minister for Education Natalie Hutchins highlighted the Labor Government’s nation-leading new school construction program and announced Anthony Potesta as Principal, with Maree Moyle as Principal of Merrifield South Primary School (interim name).

Anthony Potesta was most recently principal at Meadows Primary School and is committed to building strong relationships with the school community to improve educational and wellbeing outcomes for all learners.

Maree Moyle has been a principal for 10 years and looks forward to developing strong community connections to create an innovative and supportive learning environment for all students.

With schools on track to open in Term 1, principals will now prepare for the 2024 school year – with recruitment for teachers and staff and designing a curriculum underway, ensuring their local community has a great local school close to home.

In the past eight years, the Labor Government has invested $12.8 billion in building new schools and delivering more than 1,850 school upgrades.

Delivery of 100 new schools by 2026 is ahead of schedule, with 75 new schools opening between 2019 and 2024 – ensuring every student can access a great local school and a quality education no matter where they live.
