Cancer Council WA is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Caroline Finch AO to the Board.

It is intended that Professor Finch be elected as President and Chair at the upcoming AGM, following the retirement of Dr Ruth Shean AO, who has served in the role since 2019.

Dr Shean said Cancer Council WA has been working for over six months to select a new Chair who is able to lead the organisation through to the future.

“We are delighted to have attracted someone of Professor Finch’s calibre and reputation,” said Dr Shean.

“Professor Finch is a nationally and internationally recognised expert in public health, injury prevention and research translation.

“She brings decades of leadership experience across academic, health, and policy sectors, including her current role as Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research at Edith Cowan University.”

Cancer Council WA CEO Ashley Reid said Professor Finch’s appointment marked a significant and exciting new chapter for the organisation.

“We are thrilled to welcome Professor Caroline Finch AO to Cancer Council WA,” Mr Reid said.

Her expertise in public health, commitment to evidence-based policy, and proven leadership will be invaluable as we continue our mission to reduce the impact of cancer for all West Australians.

Mr Reid also paid tribute to outgoing Chair Dr Ruth Shean AO, acknowledging her six years of dedicated service to the organisation.

“Dr Shean has been an exceptional Chair, guiding Cancer Council WA through a period of significant growth and transformation,” he said.

“Her deep knowledge of governance, health and education, and her calm, compassionate leadership style have left a lasting legacy. We thank her for her extraordinary contribution.”

Professor Finch will assume the role of President and Chair following the AGM in December 2025.
