The Australian Government is pleased to host India’s Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal during his visit to Australia.
Minister Goyal’s visit follows the signing of the Australia-India Economic Cooperation Trade Agreement (AI ECTA) that will eliminate tariffs on more than 85 per cent of Australian goods entering India and over 96 per cent of Indian goods entering Australia.
Minister Goyal will lead a delegation, including India’s largest industry organisations, export promotion councils and senior business representatives to Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.
Minister Goyal will also meet with Australian and Indian business leaders, students and members of Australia’s Indian diaspora community.
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Dan Tehan said the visit would further strengthen the relationship between Australia and India.
“AI ECTA is a transformational deal that will create jobs and opportunities in both countries,” Mr Tehan said.
“Minister Goyal was essential to getting this deal done and I am delighted to welcome him to Australia.
“This visit sends a strong signal that Australia and India are committed to strengthening our economic ties and exploring new opportunities.
“As the fastest growing major economy and the world’s largest democracy, India is a country with huge opportunities for our businesses.”
