Protecting Peninsula one septic tank at time

Septic Tanks.jpg

Did you know that we have the highest number of wastewater (septic tank) systems of any Victorian council? That’s over 22,000 properties across the Peninsula, who rely on wastewater systems!

Why is it important to maintain your wastewater system?

A poorly maintained system is a health risk to your family, neighbours, our waterways and the wider community. The appropriate care and maintenance of your wastewater system can prevent environmental harm and may prevent costly repairs.

Your wastewater system may need attention if:

  • the ground is damp or soggy around the effluent disposal area
  • there is a rotten egg odour
  • the toilet, shower or drains are slow to clear.

A septic tank should be cleaned or checked by a suitably qualified contractor every three years.

If you’re a property owner, you canbook a free health check on your wastewater system, where we will discuss maintenance requirements and signs of failure with you. Together we can protect the health of our Peninsula!
