The Proud on the Peninsula art exhibition has officially opened with the winners announced to a crowd of more than 100 community members at Oak Hill Gallery on Sunday 6 October.
Delivered by Mornington Peninsula Shire in partnership with Headspace Frankston, the exhibition invited local LGBTIQA+ people and their allies to submit artworks under the theme LGBTIQA+ Lives in the Frame.
Category winners announced on Sunday included:
12 and under category: Rainbow Connections community group
13 – 17 years category: Kap Meridian with their work Growth
Open age category: Alan Hammond with their work Wild at Heart
Shire Mayor Cr David Gill said Council is proud to promote equality across the Peninsula.
“We’re committed to supporting a healthy and vibrant community that celebrates and values diversity.
“This exhibition proudly celebrates the lives of LGBTIQA+ people across the Mornington Peninsula and Frankston.
“I encourage everyone to make time to visit the exhibition and enjoy the wonderful work of our talented local creatives”, concluded Cr Gill.

LGBTIQA+ is an evolving acronym that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer/questioning, asexual and many other terms (such as non-binary and pansexual) that people use to describe their experiences of their gender, sexuality, and physiological sex characteristics.
An ally is someone who is supportive of LGBTIQA+ People.
