PSPA declared, Garbutt (Townsville)

Police have made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) in relation to an armed man in Garbutt.

A declaration was made at 8.08am after the man drove to an address on Lonerganne Street and entered a residence.

A number of members of the public reported they had seen the man armed with a firearm.

Police immediately attended the scene, establishing a cordon of the area.

The PSPA encompasses the area surrounding Longeranne Street between Ramsay and Peel Streets.

Residents within the cordon are advised to stay indoors and members of the public are asked to avoid the area.

Specialist police and negotiators are currently on scene.
