Publication of disciplinary outcomes

For a number of years, South Australia Police (SAPOL) has published employee disciplinary outcomes in the South Australia Police Gazette. The purpose of these publications is to inform and educate SAPOL employees on issues relating to disciplinary outcomes including sanctions imposed.

The Commissioner of Police has now decided it is appropriate that disciplinary outcomes relating to police officers are reported publically on the South Australia Police website in the same way they are published in the South Australia Police Gazette.

Any police officer who is subject to disciplinary proceedings has a legal right to confidentiality and that will not be compromised by expanding publication in this manner. There will be no information published that will identify, or tend to identify, the sanctioned police officer.

This increased level of transparency will strengthen public trust and confidence in the police disciplinary system and better serve its ultimate aim – the protection of the public.
