Protecting the number plates on your vehicle could help prevent bigger problems down the track.
Pick up your free tamper-proof number plate screws from the Bayside Corporate Centre offices at 76 Royal Avenue, Sandringham. Council is providing the free screws as part of our ongoing focus on community safety.
The screws are designed to make number plates harder to steal and are easy to install at home in just a few minutes.
Victoria Police warn that stolen plates are often linked to multiple crimes like fuel theft, toll evasion, traffic offences and other crimes, often leaving victims to deal with the stress and inconvenience of replacing plates and disputing fines.
The screws are part of $400,000 that Council has committed towards community safety. This also includes the purchasing of CCTV for two of our major activity centres, a mobile CCTV that can be located in hot spots and a significant contribution to Neighbourhood Watch.
We continue to work with Victoria Police, Neighbourhood Watch and community partners on a range of local safety initiatives aimed at reducing opportunistic crime and helping residents feel safer.
We are also strongly advocating to the Victorian Government for increased police resources in Bayside and greater investment in Community Safety.
