Residents are invited to branch out and make a difference this month, with Camden Council calling on the community to help plant 1,000 native trees as part of National Tree Day 2026.

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Planet Ark’s National Tree Day, this year’s event will take place on Sunday 26 July, 9am-12pm, at Ferguson’s Land, located within the riparian corridor alongside the newly opened Nepean River Arts Trail.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, encouraged residents to dig in and help grow a greener future for Camden.

“National Tree Day is a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages to get their hands dirty, connect with nature and make a lasting contribution to our local environment,” she said.

“This year we’re aiming to plant around 1,000 mixed River-flat Eucalypt Forest species to help restore a critically endangered ecological community and create important habitat for native wildlife and pollinators.

“Every tree planted helps create a healthier environment for future generations, while also bringing people together for a great community cause.

“Be sure to gather your family and friends and help us make this year’s National Tree Day one to remember. The future of our environment will thank you for it.”

The planting site is regarded as one of Camden’s premier birdwatching locations and forms part of ongoing environmental restoration efforts along Matahil Creek and the Nepean River corridor.

Participants will help improve biodiversity, strengthen wildlife habitat and connect previous restoration works undertaken in the area.

As a thank you for volunteering, participants will receive a free sausage sandwich and their choice of a coffee or cold drink. Residents will also be gifted a free native bushtucker plant to take home and help put down roots in their own gardens.

Participants are required to register through the Planet Ark National Tree Day website prior to attending. For more information, and to register, visit nationaltreeday.org.au/site/10031739
