Qld COVID-19 – Fri May 22: Public transport COVID-safe / no new cases again

COVID-safe public transport measures have been highlighted, as the Queensland public’s co-operation with COVID-19 health directions continues to result in encouraging figures, with no new infections confirmed again and only three new cases in the past six days.

There remain 12 active cases, 1040 recovered and six deaths for a total of 1058.

The Transport Minister said the COVID-safe public transport plan outlines the measures in place to ensure the health and safety of customers and transport staff.

“As restrictions ease, students return to class and we move into recovery, public transport will continue to play a key role in keeping our community and economy moving,” he said.

“Just as Queenslanders have done a great job in flattening the curve, we need the community to rally together on public transport by following three simple steps:

Leave a gap as much as possible when travelling;
Exercise good hygiene practices; and
Adjust your travel and consider discussing with your employer staggered working times.”

COVID-19 support for vulnerable multicultural communities has been extended with a $900,000 connections package for refugees, asylum seekers and migrants.

The Multicultural Affairs Minister said temporary visa holders and those who were socially isolated, not proficient in English or had anxiety from trauma had been particularly affected.

Volunteers and organisations with volunteers can get specialised resources about working during a pandemic, which have been developed by Volunteering Queensland.

The Minister for Communities said in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was important to have information about delivering services safely and in line with health advice.
