Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council is again partnering with the Bendigo Bank’s Braidwood and Bungendore Community Branches to bring $12,000 in prizes to artists in our local government area.

The 2022 Major Art Prize is a $5,000 Acquisitive Award with the winning artwork to join Council’s growing art collection.

There are another four prizes; the $3,000 3D Award for small sculpture and objects in any medium, the $2,000 Emerging Artist Award (category expanded to include 18-29 year olds), the $1,000 Bendigo Pick Prize, chosen by the management board of our sponsor, for a work they fall in love with, and lastly, but not least, the $1,000 People’s Choice Award.

The People’s Choice award is voted by our viewers during the exhibition which runs from 12 May to 11 June. The award will be announced on Council’s Facebook and Instagram pages after the close of the exhibition.

‘The board of the Community Bank realise the significant impact the fires, floods and COVID-19 have had on the arts community in recent years. By supporting the 2022 QPRC Arts Awards it is an avenue to assist our local artists. On behalf of the Board I wish all exhibitors the best of luck,’ Community Bank board member, Mrs Di Izzard said.

The QPRC 2022 Art Awards & Exhibition will take place in The Q Exhibition Space, which is part of the Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre, with the Official Opening & Awards Ceremony taking place on Thursday 12 May. The Exhibition will be open to the Public from 13 May to 11 June, Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm.

Artworks will be jointly judged by respected independent arts professionals from the region, who will be announced soon.

‘The QPRC region punches above its weight in artistic talent, making the judging process a challenging but rewarding process. Last year we had just over 70 works submitted which was a testament to the talent out there,’ stated Janita Byrne, Council’s Team Leader for Culture, Arts and Museums.
