The Crisafulli Government has delivered on its election commitments to support Baby Give Back, Support Beyond Barriers and Hope in a Suitcase to continue helping those in need on the Gold Coast.
The funding is to ensure the local organisations can continue helping those facing hardship in the region, and includes $300,000 for Baby Give Back, $48,000 for Hope in a Suitcase and $240,000 over three years for the Support Beyond Barriers program.
After a decade of decline under Labor, support for vulnerable babies, children, individuals and families are of vital importance, and the Crisafulli Government is delivering by partnering with local organisations already changing lives.
Baby Give Back partners with frontline services including Act for Kids, The Benevolent Society, Gold Coast Youth Service Inc and the Domestic Violence Prevention Centre to support families experiencing hardship.
Hope in a Suitcase delivered 8,670 suitcases across Australia last year, filled with essential items for children and young people entering out-of-home care.
The Support Beyond Barriers program will continue operating through to June 2028, ensuring vulnerable Gold Coast residents can access practical assistance to navigate increasingly complex social support systems.
The Crisafulli Government’s vital funding has enabled:
- Baby Give Back to significantly expand its outreach and continue distributing clothing, nappies and essential items.
- Hope in a Suitcase to relocate to a larger premises in Ashmore, allowing volunteers to increase storage and packing capacity.
- The Support Beyond Barriers program to continue helping those in need access disability supports, aged care services, housing assistance and other essential programs.
Minister for Families, Seniors and Disability Services and Minister for Child Safety and the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence Amanda Camm said the funding reflected the Crisafulli Government’s commitment to backing grassroots organisations that deliver practical support and positive outcomes for Queenslanders.
“After crises in housing, youth crime, and cost of living under the former government, these organisations play a vital role in community support and well-being across the Gold Coast,” Minister Camm said.
“The Crisafulli Government is proud to deliver on these commitments and support the dedicated volunteers and staff who work tirelessly to strengthen their local communities.”
Member for Burleigh Hermann Vorster said local organisations Baby Give Back and Support Beyond Barriers were making a real difference in the lives of vulnerable families.
“These organisations are helping people through some of life’s toughest circumstances by providing practical support and compassion,” Mr Vorster said.
“The Crisafulli Government is proud to back local organisations that are strengthening families, supporting vulnerable residents and building stronger communities.”
Member for Southport Rob Molhoek said Hope in a Suitcase plays an important role in supporting vulnerable children entering care.
“Every child deserves to feel valued, supported and cared for, particularly during times of uncertainty and transition,” Mr Molhoek said.
“This funding will help Hope in a Suitcase reach more children and continue providing comfort, dignity and a sense of belonging at a time of huge adjustment and uncertainty.”
