Queensland Health Minister Shannon Fentiman to attend APP2024

7 March 2024

With just under a week to go until APP2024 kicks off on the Gold Coast, Queensland Guild Vice President and APP Women’s Networking Lunch MC, Amanda Seeto today made the exciting announcement that Queensland’s Minister for Health, Mental Health and Ambulance Services and Minister for Women, Shannon Fentiman MP, would be attending the conference to take part in the Women’s Networking Lunch.

Ms Seeto said the lunch on Friday, 22 March, which is open to all Friday day or full delegates, promises to be a key networking function.

“It’s very exciting to announce this just a few days out from International Women’s Day; this is one APP function not to miss,” said Ms Seeto.

“All of our Queensland members are familiar with Minister Fentiman, as the Minister has been integral in working with us on the Queensland Community Pharmacy Scope of Practice Pilot.”

“The Pilot will see community pharmacists being able to work to a full scope of practice to give more choice to patients and remove critical pressure from hospital emergency departments.”

“Community pharmacists have enjoyed a very constructive working relationship, and we are very much looking forward to hearing more from Minister Fentiman when she addresses attendees at the lunch,” said Ms Seeto.

Ms Seeto also said that the Minister’s responsibilities were broad enough that everyone attending the function could take something out of the content.

“The Minister’s responsibilities include hospitals, public, mental and oral health as well as nursing homes and hostels, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, community health services, alcohol and drug services, disease surveillance and health rights and promotion. The Minister also oversees the registration of health professionals, the ambulance service and women’s policy,” said Ms Seeto.

“There will be something in the Minister’s address for just about everyone at APP.”

The largest pharmacy conference in the southern hemisphere, APP, is again taking place at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition and runs from 14-17 March.

Ms Seeto said Minister Fentiman’s attendance fits perfectly into the theme of this year’s conference.

“The theme of APP2024 is ‘Navigating the future together’; through her work in facilitating community pharmacists to practice to a fuller scope, Minister Fentiman perfectly demonstrates this year’s theme,” said Ms Seeto.

APP brings together 7,000 proprietors, pharmacists, interns, students, pharmacy assistants and industry professionals across Australia.
