Queensland’s Red Cross Shops seeking new volunteers

Australian Red Cross

From Alderley to Yarraman, Red Cross Shops are open for business with more than 30 op shops calling for new volunteers to join the team.

Queensland Area Manager, Red Cross Retail, Graeme English, says there is a natural attrition in the pandemic as some of the most dedicated volunteers are in at-risk groups.

“While we rely on the support of volunteers of all ages, more mature people are the backbone of our volunteers operations and many have understandably decided to pause their commitments amid the pandemic.

“Queensland’s op shops are still thriving and operating in a COVID safe manner. We welcome anyone looking to learn valuable life skills to sign up as a volunteer.

“Volunteering is for everyone. From people looking for friendship, to newly arrived migrants wanting to develop their English language skills, to those with a passion for sustainable fashion, and job seekers keen for work experience in the retail sector,” said Mr English said.

“We provide training, and no previous experience is required.”

“Best of all volunteering is a wonderful way to give back to communities facing tough times. Proceeds go to the life-changing work of Red Cross.”

“The sale of goods in our shops could be used to fund a daily phone call to support elderly Australians stay safe and independent at home, or hot meals for teenagers dealing with homelessness, or clean drinking water for communities who are living in poverty,” said Mr English.

Red Cross Shops adheres to all COVID-19 requirements in its shops across Australia, in the interests of keeping staff, volunteers and communities safe during the pandemic.
