The state’s top esports drivers are coming to QUT this weekend to test their skills in the Motorsport Australia Queensland Esports State Championship.
Two QUT students have been selected as wildcard entries to battle it out with ten other finalists for cash prizes, glory and the title of champion on Saturday, August 12 from 4pm to 6pm.
QUT Sport Director Emily Rosemond said the event is a fantastic step forward for the Queensland community following on from the inaugural IOC Olympic Esports Week held in Singapore in June this year.
“Esports are becoming more and more popular with their ability to cater to new audiences with the hardware and connectivity to participate,” Ms Rosemond said.
Special guests include the Hon Stirling Hinchliffe MP, Queensland Minister for Tourism, Innovation and Sport and Minister Assisting the Premier on Olympics and Paralympics Sport and Engagement, and Motorsports Australia’s President Andrew Fraser.
The drivers will be racing on Next Level Racing’s world-leading racing simulators, and the event will be broadcast professionally.
The event is a collaboration between Motorsport Australia (MSA), Next Level Racing (NLR), and the Queensland Government and will be held in the QUT Room Three Sixty, which has panoramic views of the city, with limited tickets for the event still available.
