Rain, hail or shine: road works continue

Wagga Wagga City Council thanks road users and residents for their continued patience with the series of road works projects being undertaken on key distributor roads across our Local Government Area.

Night works on resurfacing a 380-metre stretch of Lake Albert Road, from Warrawong Street to and including the Copland Street intersection, began on Monday night, 6 February.

It is part of the $4.8 million project to rehabilitate one of Wagga Wagga’s busiest thoroughfares.

During the works, Lake Albert Road is being closed to through traffic at the roadworks site between 6pm to 6am, with detours via Lord Baden Powell Drive and Railway Street.

Director Infrastructure Services Warren Faulkner said this project, along with Council’s program of road rehabilitation works, continue to forge ahead despite this week’s inclement weather.

“At this stage, the Lake Albert Road night works are expected to be completed during the Wednesday night shift of next week,” Mr Faulkner said.

“We were able to complete the initial phase of the rehabilitation works on Copland Street, between Blaxland Road and Tasman Road, on Wednesday before the thunderstorms arrived.

“This work involved the stabilisation of the pavement and resealing of the road and is expected to be completed late next week by building resilience into the wearing surface at the intersections with Blaxland Road, Lawson Street, Hartog Place and Say Street by asphalt overlaying them.

“We’ve also been continuing works to widen and stabilise Mitchell Road, between Brunskill Road and Inglewood Road, while contractors commenced works this week on the rehabilitation of Lloyd Road, from Plumpton Road and Holbrook Road.”

The upgrade and sealing of the five-kilometre section of unsealed road on Old Narrandera Road, near Council’s boundary with the Narrandera Shire Council, is also underway.

Night works are also scheduled to start on Nagle Street from Friday 17 February to Monday 27 February, weather permitting. The road will be closed from 6pm to 6am on weeknights only, with traffic diverted to the Sturt Highway and Copland Street.

Traffic control measure are in place at these road work sites. Motorists are again asked to plan their journeys and expect delays.

“Our road patching crews have also been out and about fixing the potholes which continue to develop in the wake of each wet weather event which hits the region,” Mr Faulkner said.

“Our road network covers more than 2,288 kilometres of sealed and unsealed roads, so we really appreciate the community reporting potholes through our website or to Customer Service so we can patch them as soon as possible.”
