The rainbow flag will fly high in recognition of International Day Against Homophobia Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT) this Friday at the Langtree Connection.

The flag raising ceremony aims to support our Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ) residents who experience high rates of discrimination.

Representatives from Mildura Rural City Council, headspace, Victoria Police, Mallee Sexual Assault Unit and Mallee District Aboriginal Services are urging the community to join them in acknowledging this significant date.

Councillor for Economic Development and Tourism Mark Eckel said IDAHOBIT was an important event that focused on the importance of respecting others.

“Everyone deserves to feel safe within their own community and home,” Cr Eckel said.

“That’s why we raise the rainbow flag each year, we want members of the LGBTIQ community to know that they are not alone and are appreciated in Mildura.”

The flag raising will take place at 11.30am on Friday, 17 May at the Langtree Connection followed by a barbecue at Jaycee Park.
