Raptor Squad Charge Man Over Shooting – East Maitland

Raptor Squad North have charged a man following an investigation into a public place shooting in East Maitland earlier this year.

About 2am on Tuesday 30 January 2024, officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District were called to Gloaming Avenue, following reports of shots fired at a home.

Police will allege that several shots were fired towards the home, with a number striking the building.

A couple and three children were home at the time; however, they were uninjured.

Local police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation, before the matter was referred to State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad North under Strike Force Kwani.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force police arrested a 29-year-old man in Bolwarra Heights yesterday (Thursday 14 March 2024).

He was taken to Maitland Police Station where he was charged with fire firearm at dwelling house with disregard for safety, possess unregistered firearm-pistol, acquire ammunition for the firearm without licence/permit.

The man was bailed refused to appear before Maitland Local Court today (Friday 15 March 2024).
