Police are re-appealing for information following a series of suspicious bushfires late last year.

In January 2026, Strike Force Lafayette was established to investigate several suspicious grass fires between Sunday 28 December 2025 and on Friday 9 January 2025, in and around the Rennie, about 24km north-east of Mulwala, and Corowa areas.

As investigations continue, police are hoping to speak to a man and the driver of the car seen in the

vicinity of a bushfire near Whitehead Street, Corowa, on Friday 9 January 2026.

The man is described as being of Caucasian in appearance, aged between 30 and 40, approximately 175–180cm tall, with a heavy build.

He was seen wearing a red baseball cap, sunglasses, a black T-shirt with red branding, blue and black ‘Unit’ shorts, and black running shoes.

The vehicle is described as a white Ford Ranger utility fitted with a tradesman-style canopy.

Police are urging anyone who may have information that could assist the investigation to come forward and contact Albury Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
