Re-appeal to locate elderly man last seen in Rainbow Flat

Police are appealing for further public assistance to locate an elderly man last seen in the state’s Mid North Coast.

John Flynn, aged 81, was last seen near Taree Railway Station on Whitbread Street, Taree, about 10.30am yesterday (Friday 2 October 2026).

When he was unable to be located or contacted, officers attached to Manning/Great Lakes Police District were notified and commenced inquiries into his whereabouts.

Police and family hold serious concerns for John’s welfare as he lives with a medical condition.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 150cm to 155cm tall, of thin build, with grey hair.

John was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt with a black jacket and cream coloured pants and carrying a large black backpack.

Following inquiries, police believe he may have visited the Pacific Highway near The Lakes Way Interchange, Rainbow Flat, about 11.30am yesterday (Friday 2 October 2026).

Police believe John may be travelling south in a vehicle.
