The Rockliff Liberal Government is pleased to announce that Mr Greg Melick AO RFD FANZCN SC has been reappointed as the Chief Commissioner of the Integrity Commission.
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Elise Archer said the Integrity Commission plays a crucial role in ensuring Tasmania’s public authorities and officers measure up to the highest ethical standards, and our Government values the work of the Commission.
“Mr Melick was originally appointed to the position in August 2015, and then reappointed for a further term of five years in August 2017. Mr Melick is now being reappointed for a further term until 16 August 2025, at which time he will have been Chief Commissioner for 10 years,” the Attorney-General said.
“Mr Melick is a highly qualified and nationally respected legal figure and Major General (Retd). He is a Barrister and Senior Counsel with Michael Kirby Chambers and previously worked in both private practice and government legal services. His extensive career includes Tribunal experience, Special Investigator for Cricket Australia, Deputy President Administrative Appeals Tribunal (part time) since 2014, and a statutory member of both the NSW Casino Control Authority and National Crime Authority.
“Mr Melick has served on many Boards locally and nationally and is currently also the RSL National President. He has a BA, LLB (University of Sydney 1973), and completed further study at the College of Law, NSW.
“As required by the Integrity Commission Act (2009), Mr Melick’s nomination for the position was the subject of consultation with Parliament’s Joint Standing Committee on Integrity.”
