Recommended readings from sector leaders 14 October

Austrade

We asked our sector leaders to recommend readings that they think will influence us for the rest of 2020 and beyond. In the coming weeks we will share their suggested readings which can shape our continued response to the recent crises, our ongoing challenges and a collective way forward.

This week’s we bring you the recommended readings from Joel Backwell. Joel is the Executive Director of the International Education Division of the Department of Education and Training, which is responsible for building global learning and engagement across the Victorian Education system. Joel believes that COVID-19 presents an opportunity for the schools sector to innovate.

Joel’s suggested readings and resources are:

  • The Permanent Resident, book by Roanna Gonsalves (an international student from Mumbai) because we need to hear more great stories directly from our international students
  • The Medici Effect, book by Frans Johannson because solving complex problems requires a multi-disciplinary approach
  • The New Social Contract, 10-part UTS Podcast series on what COVID-19 means for universities
  • Ronny Chieng: International Student, ABC comedy TV series available on Netflix because we all need a laugh during these challenging times.
