- More than $78 million allocated in 2026-27 for 110 road safety projects across Western Australia on State and local roads

The Cook Labor Government is delivering another record investment in road safety, with $78.29 million allocated to the State Black Spot Program and Safer Roads Program in 2026-27.
The funding will support the delivery of 110 road safety projects across the State, including 50 in regional WA and 60 in the metropolitan area.
The Cook Labor Government has committed $23.29 million towards the State Black Spot Program, with a further $6 million to be contributed by local governments from around Western Australia to support safety projects on local roads.
The 2026-27 State Black Spot Program will support 73 projects, including 17 on State roads and 56 on local government roads.
A further $55 million, co-funded by the Road Trauma Trust Account, will be allocated to the 2026-27 Safer Roads Program to fund crucial upgrades and road safety improvements throughout the State.
The latest funding takes the total amount invested in various WA road safety programs to more than $850 million.
This is in addition to the $1 billion invested by the State Labor Government under the landmark Regional Road Safety Program, which has upgraded more than 10,000km of regional roads since the program launched in 2020.
Projects to be funded under the 2026-27 State Black Spot Program include:
- $983,000 for Stage 2 to widen the seal on Fairbairn Street, formalise parking and bus bays, install a pedestrian path and kerbing, and upgrade lighting in the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley;
- $485,000 for Stage 2 to realign, widen and seal the Doyle Road intersection with Springdale Road, improve drainage and floodways, and install delineation and signage in the Shire of Esperance;
- $222,000 for Stage 2 to widen intersection and approaches at Bullaring-Gorge Road and Rabbit Proof Fence Road, install rumble strips, remove hazards from clear zone, improve drainage and install signs in the Shire of Corrigin;
- $170,000 for Stage 2 to install raised intersection plateaus and upgrade street lighting on Glencoe Parade in the City of Mandurah;
- $131,000 to modify median islands, install pedestrian crossings and upgrade street lighting at Reid Road-Bernard Way-Dobson Drive in the Shire of Broome;
- $100,000 to install safety barriers at two locations on Mooliabeenee Road in the Shire of Gingin;
- $716,000 for Stage 2 to install a roundabout and upgrade pedestrian facilities and lighting at Apsley Road and Aster Avenue in the City of Canning;
- $386,000 for Stage 2 to install speed cushions on Runnymede Gate between Gilmore Avenue and Wellard Road, and on Lambeth Circuit approaches to the roundabout in the City of Kwinana;
- $293,000 for Stage 2 to install raised intersection plateaus and improve pedestrian crossings on Burswood Road at Howick Street and Egham Road in the Town of Victoria Park;
- $1.7 million for Stage 2 to install a roundabout at the intersection of Berrigan Drive and Elderberry Drive in the City of Cockburn;
- $1.25 million for Stage 2 to replace two adjacent intersections with one elongated roundabout at Rowley Road, Liddelow Road and De Haer Road in the City of Cockburn and City of Kwinana;
- $120,000 for Stage 1 to install speed cushions and raised intersection plateaus on Maguire Avenue between Small Street and Bacon Place, and upgrade street lighting in the City of Swan;
- $533,000 for Stage 2 to install traffic signals at Hartman Drive and Prindeville Drive intersection, ban right turn movement from Buckingham Drive to Hartman Drive in the City of Wanneroo;
- $264,000 for Stage 1 to widen and seal shoulders, install delineation and pavement markings, and upgrade lighting on Karnup Road in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale;
- $106,000 for Stage 1 to install a roundabout and upgrade street lighting at Waddell Road and Preston Point Road in the City of Melville;
- $10,000 for Stage 1 to upgrade street lighting on Williams Road between Owen Road and Challis Road in the City of Armadale;
- $319,000 for Stage 1 to install roundabouts at Waikiki Road and Antigua Street intersection with Malibu Road. Install raised intersection plateau at Trade Winds Drive-Tidefall Street, install right turn lane from Malibu Road into Bahama Place and upgrade lighting in the City of Rockingham; and
- $52,000 for Stage 1 to install a signalised pedestrian crossing on Guildford Road between Grafton Road and Ferguson Street, upgrade street lighting in the City of Bayswater.
Projects funded through the 2026-27 Safer Roads Program include:
- $1.9 million for seal widening and other improvements on South Western Highway between Brunswick and Roelands;
- $2.4 million to widen South Western Highway between Vasse Highway and Quinninup;
- $1.6 million for reconstruction and widening of the Pinjarra-Williams Road between Pinjarra Bypass and Greens Hill;
- $3.8 million for major improvements to the Geraldton-Mt Magnet Road through the Mullewa townsite;
- $3.2 million to commence construction of northbound and southbound overtaking lanes on Goldfields Highway at Gidgie; and
- $2.8 million to widen floodways on the Victoria Highway between Middle Creek and Yearling Creek in the Kimberley.
