Recovery operation after man dies in Colo River

Police divers will join the recovery operation for a man who died in the Colo River in Sydney’s north west.

About 7pm yesterday (Saturday 16 January 2021), emergency services were called to the river near Grassy Hill Trail at Colo Heights, following reports a man had disappeared under water.

Police have been told the man – believed to be aged 41 – was with five other men on separate inflatable lilos when he became wedged on a large submerged rock about 1pm.

The other men were uninjured and alerted authorities.

An operation commenced involving officers from Hawkesbury Police Area Command, Police Rescue, PolAir and NSW Ambulance.

Paramedics were winched into the location, and the man, who is still partially underwater, was declared deceased.

Due to the terrain and fading daylight, the recovery operation was suspended just after 8.30pm.

It is due to recommence about 10am today (Sunday 17 January 2021).

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
