Reduce Littering Improve Recycling: Bayside

Council is set to investigate installing basket attachments on suitable public litter bins in Bayside to encourage more recycling of drink bottles and cans.

Bayside’s parks, streets, and waterways experience increasing pressure from litter, particularly bottles, cans, and other waste that often enters the stormwater system and ultimately impacts local waterways and Botany Bay.

Council will now investigate trialling a wire basket system attached to existing public for the collection of cans and bottles, to provide a simple, low-cost intervention to help encourage recycling.

Council already manages over 60 gross pollutant traps and 70 litter capture devices across the LGA.

Information about these existing measures as well as other recommendations to limit littering will be presented to a future Council Meeting.
